While the Internet might have helped many companies develop their business relationships, it certainly comes with a large number of problems for the human resource department of a business. The Internet and communications that have evolved with the Internet comes with a lot of potential items that could put your job at risk. Since technology is such an integral part of our daily lives we might not even know that we are putting our jobs at risk.
Here is a look at some technological habits that might put our jobs at risk.
Facebook. Many employees know that Facebooking while at work is wrong. However, these employees do not know that sharing personal work related information while at home and on Facebook can be just as destructive to their jobs. Many companies have developed HR policies that approach the subject of Facebook and what can and cannot be shared.
Emails. It might be tempting to sneak a peak at your personal emails while at work but it can cause a lot of problems on the HR front. Many employees will check their personal emails on company time which is a major office problem. If they are not checking their personal email they are using the company email for personal use which can be just as bad.
Texting While at Work. A single text message will probably slip by HR’s eyes. However, if you are sitting at your desk at all hours texting like crazy you will probably catch HR’s eye. Try to avoid text messaging until after work hours. That one simple text message could just cost you your job.
Playing Games. Almost every computer known to mankind has some form of solitaire on it. However, that doesn’t mean you should be spending your company’s time sitting there playing solitaire or minesweeper. Avoid game playing if you do not want to end up on the unemployed line.
