Running A Business on a Shoe String

Those starting small businesses have many of the same fears. A fear of quitting a full time job with health insurance and relative job security to venture out on your own is a risky proposition. Another thing most small business owners have in common is having to stretch every last dollar available to them. To be successful running a small business you have to be on top of every facet on your business and especially with the money you are spending. Here are a couple ideas that can save you a lot of money as you start your business.

1.) Buy Office Items in Bulk- Try and shy away from small piece meal purchases as they pertain to office equipment. Usually by buying in bulk, you will get a much better deal and perhaps acquire pieces to furnish your office at near whole sale prices. Find one dealer with an excess of inventory and try and strike a deal to get desks, lamps, chairs and the remainder of your office equipment and get a much better deal than you would at a regular store.

2.) Take Advantage of Free Advertising- Marketing costs can be a heavy burden on a new business. In order to get your name out there, many small business owners feel they have to use most of their budget to bring customers in the door and begin making money. In reality, there are many places on the internet that will let you advertise for free. Also, depending on what business you are starting, you may be able to trade services that you provide for advertising time in print or on TV.

Starting a business is a difficult undertaking for anyone. The success rate on small businesses isn’t great but the best chance your company has to survive is if you’re smart about your finances and make the best decisions to help you succeed.
