Hiring process has become very tough in many companies especially after the recession. This is so because they want to hire the right person for that position. Previously, many companies just opted for one or two rounds of personal interview. However, now-a-days, almost all multinational companies have a written test and couple of interviews. Some companies still prefer to have group discussions as part of their hiring process. This is mostly for candidates in sales or in customer service positions.
Group discussions are mainly to see the boldness of the candidate and their communication skills more than the content of their speech. As long as their discussion is based around the topic, there is no right or wrong answers in a group discussion. Many multinational companies still use this in their hiring process especially when they are recruiting freshers or candidates with no work experience. Aptitude test is another common part of the hiring process. For experienced candidates usually group discussions are not a part of their hiring process. Once selected in the test, there might still be one or two rounds of personal or telephonic interview. Usually one interview will definitely be a personal interview with the concerned Manager or Head of the Department.
After recession the process of recruiting has become even more stringent because the companies want to hire the best talent in the field. Work experience in the relevant field is a major plus and willing to relocate is another big advantage for a candidate. For a sales job companies usually prefer someone with experienced in their relevant field and these are the profiles which are always in demand. Hiring process for middle and higher management is even tougher as the company has to invest huge money as their income; however, jobs in this segment are difficult to get after the recession.
